Spark Diet Tracker consists of two products: SPARK Ux-1K or Ux-2KA which are essentially Urinalysis Test Strips. Ux-1K strips for Urinalysis measure Ketone in the Urine (one parameter) and Ux-2KA strips measure Ketone and pH (two parameters) in the Urine. These strips are designed in such a way as to allow easy reading using a simple Mobile Camera Image using our “Spark DietTracker'' or “Spark Dx” App available in the iOS and Android stores.

Fixed ketones are not normally found in the urine. They are byproducts of fat metabolism. The two predominant ketone bodies in fat metabolism are acetoacetate (ACAC) and beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHB). Urine excretes the ketones in the blood proportionally to the levels in the blood. Daily self-testing for the ketones in the urine is a common approach to knowing whether your body is in ketosis or a fat-burning zone. Ketone test strips measure the levels of acetoacetate in the Urine. Urine ketones can be an initial discerning tool to let you know you’re on the right track to fat loss.

Urine pH testing is an easy way to find out if your body is alkaline.  You want a urine pH of at least 7.0 or greater to be in an alkaline state.
The desired pH level of urine should be neutral to slightly alkaline for the person following an Alkaline or Keto-Alkaline diet.    Urine pH can be directly affected by the ingestion of acidic or basic foods.  As an example, a diet rich in vegetables and fruits results in the urine being more alkaline (pH > 7.0), while food such as animal protein (meat, cheese) and stress can be a contributor to a lower pH in urine.
For a Diet such as Keto/Alkaline diet, the goal is the keep your urine pH alkaline (pH > 7.0) as much as possible, while ensuring that the body keeps burning fat for fuel as seen by the presence of ketones (acetoacetate) in urine.

pH is a measurement of the acid or alkaline state of a fluid such as Urine. In our body, the blood is slightly alkaline at a pH of ~7.4, while the pH levels of your urine change depending on what you eat.  The concept of the alkaline diet is based on reducing the intake of acid-producing food such as meat to maintain the body in an alkaline state while supporting healthy weight loss.

Each test strip is designed to use an appropriate calibration against varying conditions under which the image of the test is taken from an app. This allows better results against the changing conditions of lighting or the user camera in different mobile phones.

Spark’s award-winning technology of mobile phone application takes a camera picture of the test strips and is used as a “reader” to convert the image color to the calibrated value.
